A Los Angeles Police Department officer has been charged with kidnapping, assault with a firearm, and two felony counts of child abuse related to an alleged domestic incident in the San Fernando Valley, CBS News Los Angeles reported.

The incident reportedly occurred on October 26 when the officer, identified as Anthony Guiterrez, allegedly pointed a gun at the mother of his children during an argument and left the house with her while their two children were present, according to the LA County District Attorney's Office.

Guiterrez was arrested by LAPD officers shortly after the incident and has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His bail was set at $350,000, and if convicted, he faces up to 20 years and eight months in state prison.

District Attorney Nathan Hochman emphasized the seriousness of the case, noting that the officer's alleged actions violated the oath to serve and protect, especially given the impact of domestic violence on victims and their families.

The charges and arrest took place while Guiterrez was off duty, highlighting concerns about domestic violence involving law enforcement personnel, KTLA 5 reported.
