Durham experienced a record-breaking tourism year in 2025, welcoming 13.4 million visitors who spent a total of $1.17 billion, according to ABC11 WTVD.

Most visitors came from within North Carolina, making up 70% of travelers, while the remaining 30% were from outside the state, reported WTVD.

Local businesses like The Federal, a dive bar near Duke University, have seen increased customer traffic from visitors nationwide and internationally, though owners face challenges from rising costs of goods and supplies.

Cara Rousseau, president and CEO of Discover Durham, noted that many visitors choose Durham for its food, attractions, and vibrant atmosphere, with popular spots including The Streets at Southpoint, Durham Bulls Athletic Park, Duke's West Campus, and the Durham Performing Arts Center.
