Atlanta police arrested two women in connection with the death of 4-year-old Colby Cooks, whose body was found during a welfare check in a southwest Atlanta townhome, FOX 5 Atlanta reported. Officers and firefighters entered the home at 3507 Cardinal Dr SW after receiving a welfare check request and found the child unresponsive.

Medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Colby was pronounced dead at the scene. The Fulton County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide caused by blunt force trauma, Atlanta News First reported. The child's body was found under a pile of clothes in the master bedroom closet, with multiple injuries including lacerations, bruises, a burn mark, and possible broken bones.

One suspect, 32-year-old Jasmaine Smoak, fled the scene with three children before police arrived. She was located and arrested in Wilkes County with the assistance of the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office. One of the children was hospitalized with visible injuries. Smoak faces multiple charges including murder, aggravated assault, and cruelty to children, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.

The second suspect, 30-year-old Jasmine Tyree Jenkins, was arrested in Wilkes County on outstanding warrants for murder and first-degree cruelty to children, Atlanta News First reported. Jenkins has a history of previous arrests in metro Atlanta for battery and assault. Authorities have not disclosed her relationship to the victim or to Smoak.

Smoak has been extradited to Atlanta and is held in Fulton County Jail. Police have not released further details on the suspects' relationship to the children or the timeline for Jenkins' transfer to Atlanta Police Public Safety Headquarters, FOX 5 Atlanta said.
