Larry Millete sentenced to 25 years to life for wife Maya's murder in Chula Vista
Larry Millete was sentenced for the 2021 murder of his wife Maya Millete, whose body remains missing in Chula Vista.
Larry Millete was sentenced Monday to 25 years to life in prison for the first-degree murder of his wife, Maya Millete, according to FOX 5 San Diego. Maya was last seen on security footage entering their Chula Vista home in 2021 but never leaving, and her body has not been found.
During the months-long trial, evidence including family photos and private communications was presented, revealing details about their marriage. Victim statements were made by Maya’s daughters and siblings, many pleading with Larry to disclose the location of Maya’s remains for closure.
In a jail interview a day after sentencing, Larry Millete maintained his innocence and claimed ignorance about Maya’s whereabouts. He expressed love for Maya and rejected accusations that he harmed her and disposed of her body.
Larry suggested Maya might still be alive and could reappear, citing cases of people turning up years later. He noted Maya’s phone, a key piece of evidence, was last pinged in early January 2021 but has never been recovered.
Judge Enrique Camarena considered Larry’s claim of not knowing Maya’s location when determining the sentence. The case remains open as Maya’s family continues to seek answers about her disappearance.
