The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office North Detention Center has started to house federal detainees as of November 2, WSOC-TV reported.

This change comes after several months of preparation and coordination with the U.S. Marshals Service to accommodate federal inmates at the facility.

The move marks a new phase for the detention center, expanding its role beyond local detainees to include federal custody.

Officials have worked closely with federal authorities to ensure the facility meets the requirements for housing federal detainees.
