A 19-year-old man from Melbourne was taken into custody Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a 15-year-old boy in Brevard County, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred on June 21 just before 4 a.m. on Viera Boulevard near Independence Avenue in Viera. The victim, Isaiah Irizarry, was riding his scooter home when a Hyundai Genesis veered onto the shoulder and struck him, according to FHP.

After the collision, the driver fled the scene. A 14-year-old friend riding with Isaiah attempted CPR before first responders arrived. Isaiah was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators found a vehicle matching the description of the suspect car approximately 1.5 miles south of the crash site. The man arrested, identified as Aidan Perry, faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage. He was booked into the Brevard County Jail.

Isaiah's aunt and legal guardian, Deanna Irizarry, called for justice following the tragedy. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the case.
