Mooresville officials have unanimously approved a 12-month moratorium on new data center projects, WFAE reported. The town's commissioners took this step to pause new applications for such facilities starting Monday night, according to WJZY.

The moratorium aims to allow town leaders time to balance business growth with concerns about environmental and electrical impacts that data centers may bring, WFAE explained.

Mooresville is now among 57 municipalities in North Carolina that have adopted similar pauses on data center development, WJZY noted.

This decision reflects a growing trend across the state as communities assess how to manage the rapid expansion of data centers while considering local infrastructure and environmental factors.
