The State Board of Elections reported that nine out of twelve precincts in Hertford County experienced about a 30-minute delay during Election Day due to backup issues, WITN reported.

Minor delays were also noted in one precinct each in Wilson and Gates counties, with Lenoir County reporting similar issues at one precinct, according to WITN.

The Board of Elections explained that minor delays can result from technical problems such as printer jams, power outages, or longer lines than expected, and that poll hours may be extended past 7:30 p.m. if needed.

Congressional monitors have been assigned to District One, which includes Hertford, Pasquotank, and other nearby counties, to oversee election conditions, WITN added.

The Board will continue to monitor the situation statewide and provide updates as necessary throughout the day.
