Oregon community darkroom offers space for film photography learning and creation
Franklin Foto in Portland provides memberships, classes, and gallery space to support film photographers.
A community darkroom called Franklin Foto in Portland, Oregon, is providing a space for people to learn, create, and share the craft of film photography, WITN reported.
The darkroom, located in Saint John’s, offers sliding-scale memberships, classes, and gallery space for individuals interested in shooting on film, according to WBTV.
Co-founders Bobby Abrahamson and Jason Kaplan had envisioned opening such a space for several years. The sudden death of Abrahamson’s brother, Franklin, helped clarify their vision, as Franklin left money that made the studio’s development possible, Atlanta News First reported.
Abrahamson said the community aspect is important, with people discovering what others see in their lives through photography and getting to know each other in meaningful ways, according to WITN.
