A candidate running for North Carolina's 5th State House District seat has accused his opponent of using an AI deep fake as part of the campaign, WAVY 10 reported.

Sam Davis III, a commissioner from Pasquotank County and the Democratic nominee, is seeking to unseat the two-term Republican State Representative Bill Ward in the district, which includes Elizabeth City.

Davis alleges that his opponent approved an AI-generated deep fake video or image intended to misrepresent him during the campaign, according to WAVY 10.

The claim highlights concerns about the use of artificial intelligence technology in local political races and its potential impact on voter perceptions.
