Mother shares story of daughter killed by ex-boyfriend for Domestic Violence Awareness Month
A mother in Atlanta speaks out to raise awareness after her daughter was fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend at work last Halloween.
The mother of a 21-year-old Atlanta woman who was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend at her workplace last Halloween is sharing her story during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Atlanta News First reported.
Elaijiah Whitley had tried to hide from her ex-boyfriend for weeks before he found her at work, where he shot her and then himself, according to her mother, Marcie Moses.
Moses described the relationship as escalating from isolation to aggression and physical abuse, noting that a protective order had been issued but police intervention came too late.
She also highlighted that the ex-boyfriend had previously been jailed for an attempted shooting and was out on bond shortly before the killing, prompting her to call for stronger safeguards for accused violent offenders while on bond.
Moses urged people to take warning signs seriously and to trust their instincts when feeling isolated or sensing something is wrong.
