Wake County Public School System is examining its technology use in classrooms following a recent survey, WRAL reported. The survey revealed that many teachers feel they are competing with laptops and other devices for students' attention during lessons.

According to the survey, high school students in Wake County spend up to 90 minutes per school day on their devices, with an average of 39 minutes spent on YouTube alone. These findings have raised concerns about the impact of screen time on student learning and the district's costs related to technology.

In response to these concerns, students and school leaders are scheduled to meet Tuesday to discuss the survey results and consider potential changes to technology use policies within the district.

The Wake County school board plans to take a closer look at how technology is integrated into classrooms and its effects on both teaching and learning as part of this review process.
