The Four Oaks community gathered Monday night for a candlelight vigil to remember 12-year-old Austin Paradise, who died Sunday in a UTV accident on private property along the 1300 block of Shaws Pond Road, according to CBS17 and ABC11 WTVD.

Austin, affectionately called AJ by family and friends, was remembered through song, prayer, and stories highlighting the happiness he brought to those around him, ABC11 reported. Close family friends described him as a special, happy child who loved baseball, animals, and spending time outdoors.

At the vigil, classmates shared memories as they tried to process his death, with one student saying they would carry Austin’s memory in their hearts. Family and friends expressed their grief and support for Austin’s mother, who was too heartbroken to speak at the event.

The Johnston County Sheriff's Office confirmed the accident involved a side-by-side UTV on private property. Community members emphasized the tragedy as a reminder of life’s preciousness and the importance of cherishing loved ones.
