NHL teams unveil new 'Hometown Remix' uniforms for 2026-27 season
The Penguins and Red Wings reveal special-edition sweaters celebrating local heritage as part of NHL's league-wide program.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings have unveiled their new 'Hometown Remix' uniforms, part of a league-wide initiative featuring custom designs for all 32 NHL franchises during the 2026-27 season, Yahoo Sports reported.
The Penguins' special-edition sweater incorporates rich blue coloring from their inaugural 1967 season and includes design elements inspired by local landmarks and Pittsburgh's cultural heritage. The team will debut these uniforms on November 3 against the Vegas Golden Knights and wear them for 10 home games this season.
Meanwhile, the Red Wings' new design prominently features the word 'HOCKEYTOWN' across the chest with the iconic Winged Wheel logo beneath it. The uniforms maintain the traditional red base and white sleeves, staying true to the franchise's classic color scheme, according to Yahoo Sports.
This collection, created in partnership with Fanatics, aims to celebrate each franchise's city, fan base, and local culture. The Red Wings' new jerseys add to their history of special uniforms, following their Centennial uniforms unveiled last season.
Fans have reacted to the Red Wings' design with mixed opinions, appreciating the 'Hockeytown' lettering while some hoped for a more adventurous approach. The Red Wings will return home to wear the new sweaters on November 5 against the Golden Knights.
