Shaun Edwards says England coach declined his offer to join World Cup staff
Defence coach Shaun Edwards reveals England head coach Steve Borthwick turned down his offer to work at the Rugby World Cup.
Shaun Edwards, a highly regarded rugby defence coach, said that England head coach Steve Borthwick declined his offer to join the coaching staff for the upcoming Rugby World Cup, according to reports from BBC Sport and Yahoo Sports.
Edwards, who left his role with France earlier this year and had a short-term position with England's women's team, has instead committed to working with Argentina through the tournament.
Edwards described his conversation with Borthwick as candid, noting that Borthwick expressed satisfaction with his current coaching team and the progress they have made, which Edwards respected.
With a distinguished coaching career including three Six Nations Grand Slams with Wales and multiple titles with France and Wasps, Edwards has long been linked to England's men's team but has not joined their staff for this World Cup cycle.
England's backroom team for the World Cup is already established with Richard Wigglesworth leading defence coaching, supported by Byron McGuigan and Joe El-Abd, as reported by Yahoo Sports.
England's recent performance has been mixed, with a 12-Test winning streak ended earlier this year and a series of defeats followed by wins against Fiji and Argentina.
