Qatar’s Emir meets Putin and Iran’s Pezeshkian to discuss diplomacy and energy
Qatar's Emir met Russian President Putin and Iran's President Pezeshkian in Moscow to discuss regional stability and energy cooperation amid US-Iran tensions.
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow during the Gas Exporting Countries Forum to discuss bilateral ties and the impact of US-Iran tensions on regional stability and energy markets, Al Jazeera reported.
On the same day, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian also met with Qatar’s Emir on the sidelines of the energy forum in Moscow, according to Iranian state media cited by Al Jazeera. They reviewed the current state of Tehran-Doha relations and emphasized expanding political and economic cooperation.
The two leaders discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector. There was no mention of the ongoing US-Israel conflict involving Iran during their talks, despite Iran's missile and drone strikes in the region, including Qatar.
Qatar has been involved in mediation efforts to resolve the nearly eight-month-old war. A Qatari foreign ministry spokesman called for Iran to cease threatening Gulf states to enable diplomacy to reduce tensions, and noted that a Qatari delegation had visited Tehran to support mediation with the United States.
