Carrier Global announced plans to invest more than $600 million in a new manufacturing and engineering center in Fort Worth, Texas, to expand its U.S. production capacity for advanced thermal management systems, Manufacturing Dive reported.

The new facility will focus on producing air- and water-cooled commercial chillers and is scheduled to open next year, according to the company’s news release.

This investment is part of Carrier’s broader effort to grow its U.S. manufacturing footprint, which includes a previous $1 billion commitment for expanding plants and supporting heat pump and battery assembly production.

Carrier is also enhancing its workforce, with plans to hire 1,000 U.S. service technicians and train over 100,000 HVAC technicians within five years.

The city of Fort Worth approved $10.9 million in tax abatements over seven years to support the project under the Texas Enterprise Zone Program, which encourages private investment and job creation in economically distressed areas, a Carrier spokesperson said.

Carrier cited Fort Worth’s skilled workforce, manufacturing base, and strategic location as reasons for choosing the site, while a city spokesperson declined to discuss incentives in detail.
