Raleigh officials closed Glenwood Avenue South from Hillsborough Street to Peace Street to all but pedestrians on Saturday evening as part of Halloween safety measures, WRAL reported. Barricades were set up starting at 5 p.m. to prepare for the expected increase in foot traffic in the nightlife area.

The Raleigh Police Department increased patrols along Glenwood Avenue and established command centers to enhance security during the holiday, according to WRAL. Crowds and long lines outside bars and restaurants started forming by mid-afternoon.

People celebrating Halloween on Glenwood South expressed support for the city's decision to boost security. Some noted that police presence was less than expected compared to previous years, WRAL reported.

These measures follow previous incidents during holidays in the area, including a July 4 celebration that resulted in dozens of arrests, prompting officials to take extra precautions this Halloween, WRAL said.
