Two men died and one person was hospitalized after a vehicle fleeing a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper crashed head-on near the Chatham-Lee county line, ABC11 WTVD reported.

The incident began just after 8:30 p.m. when a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle traveling 92 mph in a 65-mph zone on U.S. 421 north. The driver did not stop and led officers on a chase through secondary roads before returning to U.S. 421.

The driver then made a U-turn and drove southbound in the northbound lanes using a median crossover. Shortly before 9 p.m., the suspect's vehicle collided head-on with another car.

Both drivers died from the crash. The suspect was identified as a 19-year-old from Maryland, and the other driver was a 21-year-old from Raeford. A passenger in the Raeford driver's vehicle was taken to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill with non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
