Ted Martinez Jr. and Lidia S. Martinez were named Mr. and Mrs. San Diego 2026 by the San Diego Rotary Club, marking the first time a Latino couple has received the award in its 72-year history, Times of San Diego reported.

The award recognizes locals who embody the Rotary’s Service Above Self motto. Ted and Lidia have been together for 44 years, including 27 years living in San Diego and 15 in the downtown Marina District.

Both have distinct volunteer paths but share a mutual support system, with Lidia noting they back each other fully when one commits to a cause. Their volunteer work includes contributions to the USS Midway Museum, where they sometimes attend events in different roles such as board member and corporate sponsor.

Their backgrounds include years in education and business before focusing on volunteerism. Ted grew up in a migrant family as one of seven children, illustrating a journey from humble beginnings to community leadership.
