Single adult in Georgia needs $80K yearly to live comfortably in 2026
A family of four in the U.S. requires up to $329,000 annually to cover essentials and savings, according to a new cost-of-living analysis.
A recent analysis by SmartAsset, using data from the MIT Living Wage Calculator, found that a single adult in Georgia needs to earn at least $80,000 per year to live comfortably in 2026. This figure accounts for housing, groceries, transportation, and other essential costs, reflecting the rising expenses faced by households.
For families, the income requirement is significantly higher. A household with two working adults and two children needs up to $329,000 annually to cover necessities, discretionary spending, and savings, according to the highest figures found in the U.S. This estimate is based on the 50/30/20 budgeting rule, which allocates 50% of income to necessities, 30% to discretionary spending, and 20% to savings for retirement and emergencies.
The data used in this analysis was updated in February 2026 and includes year-over-year changes from 2025. The study highlights that earning a six-figure salary may no longer guarantee financial comfort in many states, including Georgia.
Understanding these income thresholds can help individuals and families plan their finances accordingly.
