Suspect dies after forced entry and altercation at Sacramento home
Sacramento deputies responded to a home break-in and assault that ended with the suspect's death Tuesday evening.
Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputies responded Tuesday evening to a reported assault following a forced entry into a residence on the 5400 block of Hillsdale Boulevard, FOX40 reported.
The incident began when a suspect struck a caller’s vehicle with his hand. The caller then saw the suspect banging on a nearby home’s door and physically assaulting a resident after forcibly entering the home, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
The resident pushed the suspect outside, but the altercation continued in the front yard, where the suspect struck the resident in the head multiple times. The caller intervened and helped restrain the suspect until deputies arrived.
After deputies detained the suspect, he became unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts to revive him. The resident sustained only light injuries and did not require medical attention.
The Sacramento County coroner’s office has not yet determined the official cause and manner of the suspect’s death. The Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Professional Standards Division are conducting an ongoing investigation due to the circumstances surrounding the death.
