A man was sentenced on November 4 to 25 years to life in prison for the attempted murder of a homeless man in Marysville, according to FOX40.

The incident occurred in October 2024 when a dispatcher received a 911 call with a male voice pleading for help. Police responded to the west end of 11th Street and found the victim lying on train tracks with the suspect standing over him.

The victim told police he was forced at knifepoint to lie on the tracks by the man, who was later identified as Kyle Ross McCray. McCray admitted to the act but asked law enforcement to overlook it because the victim was a registered sex offender.

The two men knew each other from a nearby homeless shelter. McCray had been banned from the shelter after threatening other residents. The victim was walking to the shelter when the incident happened.

In court, McCray pleaded no contest to willful, deliberate, and premeditated attempted murder. The judge sentenced him to 25 years to life in prison, as reported by the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office.
