Too $hort Way street sign stolen in Oakland
The street sign honoring rapper Too $hort near Fremont High School was reported missing in Oakland.
Oakland police are investigating the theft of the "Too $hort Way" street sign, which went missing from the corner of Foothill Boulevard and High Street, according to allhiphop.com.
The city had installed the sign in December 2022 to honor the rapper Too $hort, with a tribute spanning three blocks of Foothill Boulevard near his former school, Fremont High.
The dedication ceremony featured appearances by Ice Cube, Mistah F.A.B., and Sway Calloway, and included a proclamation from then-Mayor Libby Schaaf and Councilmember Noel Gallo, who also declared December 10 as "Too $hort Day."
Too $hort emphasized at the event that the celebration was for Oakland as a whole, not just for himself, and announced plans to collaborate with local schools and organizations to revive music programs.
The theft was documented by nearby cameras, but Oakland police have not released further details about the investigation.
