Two teenagers have filed lawsuits alleging they were falsely accused of shoplifting at a store in Chesterfield County. According to Richmond BizSense, the teens, both 15 years old, were shopping at Uptown Cheapskate located at 4513 Commonwealth Centre Parkway when they were detained and questioned by Chesterfield police.

The lawsuits state that the store’s own surveillance footage confirmed the teens did not take any merchandise. Despite this, the plaintiffs say they were subjected to interrogation and claim the accusations caused them harm. Both lawsuits seek $250,000 in damages, alleging defamation and false imprisonment.

The cases were filed in Chesterfield Circuit Court and are being handled by attorneys from the Halperin Law Center. The defendants include Uptown Cheapskate and unnamed individuals referred to as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2.
