The US government division responsible for assessing the safety of new artificial intelligence technologies currently does not have a permanent leader and has ceased publishing its research, the Daily Gazette reported.

This division, called the Center for Advancing Innovation and Standards for Super Intelligence, is an independent Commerce Department division, according to the Daily Gazette.

Officials from this center were recently asked to informally report to a White House office, which has raised concerns about its independence, the Daily Gazette said.

The halt in research publication and leadership vacancy come amid increasing anxiety over reports of uncontrolled AI agents, the Daily Gazette noted.
