Whole Foods recalls Ashwagandha capsules over salmonella risk
A supplement sold at Whole Foods and Amazon is recalled due to potential salmonella contamination; no illnesses reported yet.
FOX 5 DC reported that a food supplement sold at Whole Foods Markets and online through Amazon has been recalled due to concerns about possible salmonella contamination.
The recall affects one lot of 365 Whole Foods Market Standardized + Full Spectrum Blend Ashwagandha Capsules in 120-count bottles. These supplements were sold nationwide from November 25, 2025, to October 20, 2026.
According to the Food and Drug Administration, the potential contamination was found through routine sampling of a retail unit. No illnesses related to the recall have been reported so far.
The capsules were sold by Vitality Works Inc. under the 365 Whole Foods store brand, with lot number 2025-26227 and expiration date 10/13/2028. The FDA warns that salmonella infection can cause fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, typically lasting up to a week.
Consumers who purchased the recalled capsules are advised not to consume them. Instead, they should discard the bottles and not return them to stores. Refunds are available at Whole Foods Market locations.
