49ers trade for DeForest Buckner to boost defensive line
San Francisco reacquires defensive tackle DeForest Buckner from the Colts to strengthen their defense amid recent roster moves.
The San Francisco 49ers have traded a fourth-round draft pick to the Indianapolis Colts to bring back defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, who was originally drafted by the 49ers in 2016, according to the SF Standard.
Buckner, a three-time Pro Bowl player, spent the first four years of his career with San Francisco before moving to the Colts. He currently ranks second among NFL defensive tackles with four sacks this season and is expected to enhance the 49ers' defensive line, which struggled to generate pressure in a recent loss.
The trade comes shortly after the Colts sent left guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, a move that the 49ers responded to by acquiring Buckner, as reported by SF Standard.
In addition to the trade, the 49ers made practice squad adjustments by re-signing defensive lineman Kevin Givens and releasing wide receiver Malik Turner to create space, according to Yahoo Sports.
San Francisco tight end George Kittle expressed enthusiasm about Buckner's return, sharing a photo with Buckner and fullback Kyle Juszczyk from a past Pro Bowl, signaling excitement for the defensive boost.
Buckner will have time to integrate with the team during the bye week before likely playing in the home game against the Las Vegas Raiders on November 8, as noted by Yahoo Sports.
