The South Carolina Department of Transportation announced that the Ben Sawyer Bridge connecting Sullivan's Island to Mount Pleasant will close at 9 p.m. Sunday evening for final restoration and repair work, according to WCIV.

The closure will last until 4 a.m. Monday morning, allowing crews to finalize access to maintenance areas of the bridge as part of a larger structural repair project nearing completion, reported WCBD.

SCDOT stated that the permanent repairs will ensure the continued operation of the historic bridge and it is expected to resume its normal schedule for marine traffic by the end of the week, Live 5 WCSC noted.

Drivers are advised to slow down, pay attention near the work zone, and seek alternate routes during the closure, according to all sources.
