Cybersecurity firms see stock gains amid warnings of internet software flaws
CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks stocks rose after warnings of software flaws affecting many websites.
CrowdStrike's CEO warned of newly discovered flaws in widely used internet software that could lead to a surge in cyberattacks, according to 247wallst.com. This warning triggered an immediate positive response in the stock market for cybersecurity companies.
Shares of CrowdStrike increased by 8%, while Palo Alto Networks saw a 7% gain following the announcement. Other cybersecurity firms such as Okta and Datadog also experienced stock price increases, rising 6% and 5%, respectively.
The software flaw involves PHP, which powers about 70% of websites, raising concerns about a potential wave of breaches. However, there has been no federal confirmation of exploitation or breach disclosures as of late October 2026.
Market analysts suggest that without confirmed breaches or federal reports before December, the current stock gains might not be sustained. CrowdStrike's stock could potentially lose much of its recent $20 increase if no new developments occur.
