District 10 supervisor race intensifies with $500,000 billionaire donation
A large donation from crypto-billionaire Chris Larsen shifts dynamics in San Francisco's District 10 supervisor race.
The race for San Francisco's District 10 supervisor seat has become more contentious following a significant donation from crypto-billionaire Chris Larsen. Mission Local reported that Larsen contributed $500,000 to a political action committee supporting frontrunner Theo Ellington.
District 10 includes some of the city's lowest-income neighborhoods such as Bayview-Hunters Point and Sunnydale, areas that have historically been underfunded. The large donation surprised many residents and political insiders given the district's economic challenges.
Initially, the three candidates—Theo Ellington, Dion-Jay Brookter, and J.R. Eppler—had a cordial campaign with minor policy disagreements and mutual respect. They agreed on key issues like housing, the Navy's cleanup of Hunters Point Shipyard, and economic development in Bayview's commercial corridor.
After the donation became public, opponents Brookter and Eppler announced a joint 'anti-billionaire' campaign this month, highlighting concerns about wealthy influences in local elections. Brookter is a former CEO of Young Community Developers, while Eppler is a small business attorney with ties to the Potrero Hill political scene.
The race continues to evolve as candidates and voters respond to the new dynamics introduced by the billionaire's involvement. The election outcome will determine who represents District 10's diverse communities and their interests.
