Old Clam House remains San Francisco's oldest operating restaurant in Bayview
The historic Old Clam House continues serving Italian-inspired seafood in its original Bayview location.
The Old Clam House, located in San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood, holds the distinction as the city's oldest continuously operating restaurant in its original spot, according to Mission Local.
Though Tadich Grill is older, it has moved locations, making Old Clam House unique for its long-standing presence in the same place.
The restaurant features three seating areas: a main dining room, a bar with table seating, and a side atrium, preserving a welcoming atmosphere with nautical decor and seasoned waitstaff.
Since new ownership took over in 2010, the ambiance has remained consistent while the menu has been updated, maintaining its Italian-influenced seafood offerings.
Guests are greeted with a small shot glass of hot clam broth, a signature touch that complements the chilly evenings in San Francisco.
While some classic menu items like the cheesy chorizo bread have been replaced, the clam chowder remains highly praised for its smoky, creamy flavor.
