Former Atlanta halfway house employee sentenced to 18 months for inmate assault
A former Atlanta halfway house worker received prison time for sexually assaulting a federal inmate and lying to investigators.
A former employee at an Atlanta halfway house was sentenced to 18 months in prison for sexually assaulting a federal inmate, according to Atlanta News First.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia reported that the man, who worked as a residence monitor under contract with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in April 2024, engaged in non-consensual sexual contact with an inmate during an overnight shift in a supply room.
After the assault, he initially denied any sexual contact during a federal investigation. However, DNA evidence supported the victim’s account, and he then falsely claimed the inmate assaulted him, prosecutors said.
He pleaded guilty to violating the inmate’s civil rights and making false statements to a federal agent. In addition to the prison sentence, he will serve one year of supervised release.
The U.S. attorney emphasized that those responsible for inmate care must uphold the law and respect inmates’ rights, highlighting the seriousness of the violation under the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003.
