Four James River teachers mark 126 years of combined service
Four James River High School teachers have spent over three decades teaching together in Chesterfield County.
Four teachers at James River High School in Chesterfield County have collectively taught for 126 years, according to WTVR CBS 6. The educators, Pete Schumacher, Timothy Couillard, Timothy Crane, and Gregory Dommisse, began their careers at the school in the mid-1990s and have worked side-by-side ever since.
Gregory Dommisse is the only remaining original teacher from when James River High School opened in 1994, WTVR CBS 6 reported. He noted that while the school has changed, students remain largely the same over the years.
The group has experienced significant changes in education, including curriculum updates, the challenges of teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the increasing presence of cell phones in classrooms. Timothy Crane highlighted the impact of cell phones on students' lives as a major difference from when they started.
Despite these challenges, the teachers emphasize that their friendship and dedication to students have kept them motivated. Pete Schumacher said the special environment at James River and the commitment of his colleagues provide the energy to continue teaching.
All four educators, who teach different subjects, hope their students leave their classrooms well-prepared, reflecting their shared commitment to education at James River High School.
