Georgia-Florida game moves to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta for first time
The annual Georgia-Florida football rivalry will be played in Atlanta this year due to stadium renovations in Jacksonville.
The Georgia-Florida football game, traditionally held in Jacksonville, will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta for the first time, Atlanta News First reported. This change is due to renovations at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, with next year's game scheduled for Tampa, Florida.
This marks the first time since 1995 that the rivalry game will be held outside Jacksonville. The game is significant for both teams' SEC championship aspirations, with No. 3 Georgia aiming to rebound from a recent loss and No. 17 Florida seeking a second consecutive upset over a top 10 team.
Georgia leads the all-time series 58-44-2 and has won the last five games under coach Kirby Smart. The game will feature some lineup changes for Florida, with interim coach Jon Sumrall and quarterback Aaron Philo stepping in due to absences.
ANF Sports will cover the game with former Georgia players joining the broadcast team, and the event is expected to offer a unique experience for fans attending at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
