Julian Jones becomes Baltimore County’s first Black county executive
Julian Jones won over 60% of the vote, promising to fight for residents and improve county services.
Julian Jones made history by becoming Baltimore County’s first Black county executive, winning more than 60 percent of the vote against Republican Patrick Dyer, WYPR reported.
Jones pledged to fight for all county residents and address issues such as overwhelming sewer bills and government indifference, citing a meeting with a woman in Owings Mills affected by high charges.
He emphasized his commitment to supporting schools and families, particularly against threats to funding and livelihoods, and drew inspiration from his parents' examples of service and community support.
Supporters like Kevin Mooring expressed hope that Jones will improve roads, public safety, and provide tax relief, acknowledging the challenges of balancing costs.
Jones has served on the county council for 12 years and won a competitive Democratic primary earlier this year, according to WYPR.
The Baltimore Banner added that Jones celebrated his victory with a diverse crowd reflecting the county’s communities and highlighted other historic local election results, including the election of the county’s first Black sheriff and the second woman as state’s attorney.
