Maryland Governor Wes Moore has been re-elected for a second four-year term, defeating Republican challenger Dan Cox, according to WYPR and FOX45 Baltimore. The Associated Press called the race shortly after polls closed, with Moore leading by a significant margin.

Moore's victory party at Baltimore's M&T Bank Exchange was met with cheers and chants of “four more years.” During his acceptance speech, Moore highlighted his administration's focus on job creation, reducing child poverty, violent crime reduction, education reform, energy policy, and data center reform, promising to continue this work in his next term, as reported by The Baltimore Banner.

The election was a rematch of the 2022 race, with Moore again winning handily. Moore also addressed the ongoing challenges Maryland faces, including a severe budget gap and the costly, delayed rebuild of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge.

Moore took a moment to wish his opponent and family well and criticized Republican policies, citing economic challenges under former President Donald Trump. The governor also expressed his commitment to leading Maryland into the future and noted the importance of ambitious goals.

Political observers are watching the size of Moore’s victory closely, as it could boost his national profile amid speculation about a possible 2028 presidential run. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller remains Moore’s running mate, and would assume the governorship if Moore resigns to seek higher office, according to FOX45 Baltimore.

Moore also supported Question 3, a constitutional amendment that would change Maryland’s congressional districting rules, which supporters say counters Republican-led redistricting efforts. The Maryland Supreme Court allowed the measure to remain on the ballot with revised language, as noted by FOX45 Baltimore.
