Maya Hawke has been cast to star in the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Magic: The Gathering, according to reports from Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and Deadline. The movie is produced by Legendary Entertainment and Hasbro Entertainment and directed by Matt Johnson, who is also co-writing the screenplay with Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald.

The film is based on Hasbro's iconic trading card game launched in 1993, which has expanded into streaming, digital games, publishing, and live events. The game's mythology includes a multiverse of fantasy worlds where players act as wizards called Planeswalkers engaged in battles.

While Hawke's specific role in the film has not been disclosed, she is expected to lead an ensemble cast. Hawke is known for her roles in Netflix's Stranger Things and other notable projects. Director Matt Johnson is a longtime fan of the game and brings personal enthusiasm to the adaptation.

Legendary Entertainment has experience adapting popular franchises, including Minecraft and Dune. The Magic: The Gathering movie is part of a broader effort to reimagine Hasbro's brand through film and television.

Further details about the plot and additional casting have not yet been announced, with the film currently in development under Legendary and Hasbro's collaboration.
