The Mobile City Council agenda for Tuesday includes at least four speakers who signed up to address a reported $14.7 million transfer of city money to a fraudulent entity, according to fox10tv.com.
Two council members have also posted statements about the issue. Councilwoman Samantha Ingram shared concerns in her district newsletter, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter involving millions in public funds.
Ingram stated the council's responsibility to ask questions, seek facts, protect taxpayer resources, and ensure accurate information is shared with the public. She raised important questions about how the incident happened, safeguards, recovery of funds, accountability, and future prevention.
She supports federal authorities' involvement and stressed that the council must provide oversight and seek accountability. Although District 2 projects are not expected to be affected, she affirmed every taxpayer deserves confidence that city resources are protected.
Ingram committed to keeping residents informed throughout the process as more information and answers become available.
