A 37-year-old man died after being hit by a Maryland Transit Administration bus on I-295 in Anne Arundel County early Friday morning, Maryland State Police reported.

The crash happened around 2:15 a.m. near West Nursery Road and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in Linthicum, according to MTA spokesperson Paul Shepard.

State troopers from the Glen Burnie Barrack responded around 2:30 a.m. The preliminary investigation indicated the man walked from the right shoulder into the highway and was struck by a southbound bus traveling in the merge lane.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. All passengers on the bus were transferred to another vehicle. Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration and Maryland Transit Authority personnel assisted at the scene, where roads were closed for about three hours.

This is the second accident involving an MTA bus in a month. In September, 16 people were injured after a stolen car struck an MTA bus in East Baltimore, with four teens hospitalized, The Baltimore Banner reported.
