Sarah Snook to star in HBO limited series adaptation of The Birds
HBO is developing a limited series based on Daphne du Maurier's The Birds, starring and executive produced by Sarah Snook.
HBO is developing a limited series adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's novella The Birds, with Sarah Snook attached to star and executive produce, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The series is inspired by the original story and the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock film adaptation.
The show will center on Myra Massey, played by Snook, who returns to her hometown with her daughter after a custody battle and investigates a childhood friend's disappearance. The plot involves deadly bird attacks linked to the crime.
Tom Spezialy, known for The Leftovers and Ash vs. Evil Dead, is writing the series and executive producing alongside Snook, David Heyman, Danny Samit, and Jennifer Gabler Rawlings. The project is a co-production between HBO and Universal Global Television.
Universal Pictures and the du Maurier estate hold the rights to The Birds. The series marks Snook's return to HBO, where she previously won an Emmy for her role in Succession. The project was initially shopped to buyers during the summer before landing at HBO.
