SDSU basketball rebuilds with nine new players ahead of first Pac-12 season
San Diego State men's basketball has four returning players and nine newcomers as it prepares for its debut in the Pac-12.
San Diego State University's men's basketball team is undergoing a significant transformation ahead of its first season in the Pac-12 Conference, according to the Times of San Diego. The team has only four returning players and has added nine new players following a 22-11 record in the previous season.
Head coach Brian Dutcher, entering his 10th season, acknowledged the extensive roster changes and said there is "a lot to learn" with the new lineup. Despite the overhaul, he expressed cautious optimism about the team's prospects this season.
Dutcher noted that defensively, the team is likely where it needs to be, but offensively, there is still much development needed, particularly in terms of team cohesion. He described the offensive growth as a longer process with significant room for improvement.
Among the departures is guard Reese Dixon-Waters, who led the team last season with an average of 13.1 points per game. The team is adjusting to these changes as it prepares for the challenges of competing in a new conference.
The Aztecs recently won an exhibition game against Long Beach State 92-67, with transfer Chance Gladden contributing 11 points and 7 assists, indicating some early positive signs for the restructured team.
