Charlotte received just under half an inch of rain starting early Wednesday, ending a dry spell of three weeks, WBTV reported. Surrounding foothill and mountain areas experienced heavier rainfall, with some spots receiving over two inches.

Rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue Thursday and into Friday morning, according to WBTV. The area will remain warm and humid with highs in the low to mid-70s, and a First Alert has been issued for the period due to the potential for heavier storms.

Thursday's rain may impact the Friday morning commute, especially southeast of Charlotte along and south of I-85, WBTV noted. Showers and storms are forecast to end by late Friday morning, followed by clearing skies and sunshine over the weekend.

Temperatures will drop to more seasonal levels this weekend, with highs in the mid to upper 60s and overnight lows in the 30s and 40s, WBTV said. Dry weather is expected to continue into the first half of next week, with a possible cool-down toward the end of the week.
