Small plane overturns at John Wayne Airport due to high winds
A Cessna 172 flipped on the ramp at John Wayne Airport Saturday afternoon; no injuries reported.
A small plane overturned on the ramp at John Wayne Airport in Orange County on Saturday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Times. The incident involved a fixed-wing single-engine Cessna 172 registered to Huerta Holdings Inc. in Santa Ana.
The airport spokesperson reported the plane flipped around 2:38 p.m. on the ACI jet ramp, attributing the incident to high winds. The aircraft had two occupants at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Initial radio communications suggested the Cessna may have been affected by jet blast from a United Airlines 737. The airport stated that the response for safe recovery and investigation is ongoing, with no further impact on airport operations.
This is the second incident at John Wayne Airport in two days. On Friday, a Southwest Airlines flight declared a general emergency shortly after takeoff due to engine issues but landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport.
