A flash flood in South Brevard County has left residents in the Deer Run neighborhood dealing with several feet of standing water days after the initial rainfall, FOX 35 Orlando reported. Many properties, including driveways and backyards, remain submerged, forcing some residents to wear waders to leave their homes.

Residents like Paula Vargas described navigating flooded driveways alongside alligators, expressing concern about the persistent water and potential for further flooding. Neighbor Valerie Amar Bailey noted that water levels continued to rise even after the rain stopped, and wildlife such as deer struggled through the flooded areas.

The standing water has transformed backyards into lakes, and residents questioned the county's response, noting that drainage pumps did not activate to clear the storm runoff as expected. Bailey highlighted the historic nature of the flooding, stating it was unlike anything seen in over 20 years.

Community members are urging Brevard County officials for answers and a plan to address the drainage issues to prevent similar situations in the future, as the stagnant water poses ongoing challenges for residents and local wildlife.
