Stranger arrested after assaulting Henrico elementary student at bus stop
A man was taken into custody after assaulting a child at a Ratcliffe Elementary School bus stop in Henrico County.
An adult described as a stranger assaulted an elementary school student at a bus stop along the child's bus route Friday morning, according to WRIC 8News and WTVR CBS 6.
The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Blue Stone Drive and Cool Lane near Ratcliffe Elementary School, WTVR reported, citing a letter from the school principal to parents and the school community.
The bus arrived shortly after the assault, and police were called to the scene. The adult was taken into custody while the student was transported to the hospital for treatment, according to the letter shared by WTVR.
School officials stated that counselors, teachers, and administrators are working together to support students who ride this bus and will monitor for signs of anxiety or distress. The principal plans to visit the bus stop throughout the next week to reassure students and monitor the situation.
This is an isolated incident, and authorities are continuing to follow up. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available, WTVR noted.
