WRAL reported that three candidates are running for the District 9 seat on the Wake County Board of Education, which covers a large area of western Wake County. The incumbent, Tyler Swanson, who has served since 2022, is challenged by Cheryl Alexis and Brian Olson.

The upcoming November election will fill four seats on the Wake County Board of Education. Two current board members, Chris Heagarty and Cheryl Caulfield, are not seeking reelection, leading to at least two new members joining the board.

Eleven candidates have filed to run for the four open seats, each for a four-year term. The board oversees the county school system superintendent and faces ongoing challenges including budget constraints, demands for more resources, and facility repairs.

WRAL noted that the candidates were asked about key issues such as artificial intelligence, school safety, teacher pay, laptops, and academics as part of their campaigns.
