The Yolo County Assessor’s Office has issued a warning to older homeowners about an ongoing property tax scam, FOX40 reported.

Scammers are falsely claiming the existence of a federal tax form called 'IRS Form 1098-SR' that supposedly helps reduce or freeze local property taxes, the office said.

Several calls were received by the Assessor’s Office regarding this nonexistent form, which is not recognized by any federal program.

The warning aims to protect local residents from falling victim to this fraudulent scheme that targets older homeowners in Yolo County.
