Family seeks justice after Henry County police fatally shoot 16-year-old
Friends and family honor Tyrie Howse following a police shooting in Stockbridge, with state investigators involved.
Friends and family gathered in Stockbridge off Highway 138 to honor 16-year-old Tyrie Howse, who was fatally shot by a Henry County police officer during a confrontation, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is leading the inquiry after the incident, which occurred when an officer approached Howse and a 17-year-old in a Krispy Kreme parking lot. The officer reportedly told the older teen to remove his hands from his pockets, after which a gun was handed to Howse, who then ran.
The officer pursued Howse on foot and ordered him to drop the handgun. According to the GBI, Howse did not comply, prompting the officer to open fire. A gun was found at the scene.
At a vigil, loved ones released red balloons, Howse's favorite color, and recalled his constant smile and kind nature. Friends and family expressed grief and demanded answers about why the police confronted him, emphasizing that he had just started a job and had not yet received his first paycheck.
Classmates described Howse as a dedicated student who helped others, highlighting the impact of his death on young people with much life ahead of them.
