JCSU Golden Bulls advance to CIAA title game with 27-14 win over Livingstone
Johnson C. Smith University defeated Livingstone to secure a spot in the CIAA championship game for the second year in a row.
Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU) secured a 27-14 victory over Livingstone in the Commemorative Classic series, advancing to the CIAA title game for the second consecutive year, WBTV reported.
North Mecklenburg alumnus Fabian Duncan scored the first two touchdowns for JCSU, while Damien Mazil and Reggie Daniel connected for a 45-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
The Golden Bulls will face Virginia Union again in the championship game, a rematch of last year's contest where JCSU won their first conference title since 1969 with a 45-21 victory.
Head coach Maurice Flowers reflected on the team's growth and the significance of this win, especially after the heartbreak of missing the championship and playoffs in 2024 despite beating Livingstone in the final regular season game.
The CIAA championship game is scheduled for November 7 at Durham County Memorial Stadium, where JCSU will aim to defend their title against Virginia Union.
